Year l 2025Woochan Noh’s Overplating, presented in his first solo exhibition DDDD, is a new work that condenses the artist’s candid gestures into moments through the rough texture of oil paint and a geometric composition of color fields. By setting aside the weight of everyday concerns, the work centers on the act of holding the brush and moving itself, existing not as something to be explained or interpreted, but as an image that is simply “felt.”

노우찬의 오버플레이팅은 첫번째 개인전ㄷㄷㄷㄷ에서 선보인 신작으로, 거친 유화의 질감과 기하학적 색면 구성을 통해 작가의 솔직한 움직임이 응축되 순간들을 보여준다. 이 작품은 일상의 고민과 무거움을 덜어내고 붓을 쥐고 움직이는 행위 자체에 집중하며, 설명되거나 해석되기보다 그저 ‘느껴지는 이미지’로 존재한다.



The deep purple and black surface that occupies most of the canvas is not merely darkness, but a layered accumulation of time formed through repeated brushstrokes, carrying the warmth of a human trace. The precisely structured rectangular color fields in the upper left and the vivid yellow band along the bottom create a visual tension against the dense ground. With its restrained figuration, the work draws attention away from representational content and toward the embedded gestures and emotional currents within the painted surface.

화면의 대부분을 차지하는 짙은 보라색과 검은색의 표면은 단순한 어둠이 아니라, 반복되는 붓질이 겹겹이 쌓이며 드러난 시간이자 한 사람의 흔적이 만들어낸 온기의 깊이다. 좌측 상단에 배치된 정교한 사각형의 색면들과 하단의 선명한 노란색 띠는 짙은 바탕과 시각적 긴장을 이룬다. 구체적인 형상이 절제된 이 작품은 이미지의 정보보다 표면에 스민 붓질과 감정선에 집중하도록 이끈다.
